The DUMAIS FAMILY genealogy page.

 Version française

My name is Jocelyn, son of Alfred. I was born in Lac-Bouchette, a small village in central Province of Quebec’ region of Lac-St-Jean. Married to Jeanne-Mance Belanger since 1974.
Descendant of Vincent, son of Pierre Dumais and Catherine Michaud. I am a member of Pierre’s ninth generation.
I am also great-grand son of two pioneer: Paschal Dumais the first settler in Lac-Bouchette and Francois Gaudreault who was the first settler in what is now known Mistassini.

I see that Henry Dumas is on all the family info on Ancestry. His father was Eugene Dumas, Mother Margaret Trombley, not Joseph and Jane Dumas’s son. The Henry you see on the census was Emory Dumas, not Henry.

  6. Carol Dumais Blank dit :

The photos that are published for my family are not correctly attributed. Victor and Arthur are not Dumais, but Derouin. The photo that shows Lucien, is actually of my grandfather Eugene Dumais, and his wife Marie (Flossie).

    Hi Jocelyn,
I, too, am a descendent of Pierre Dumais, but by his second wife, Marie-Catherine Michaud, whom he married in 1775 and their son, Vincent. i’d like to send some information which I found on the net but could not e-mail you. My address is above if you’d like to have it. I was unaware that he married previously. I gather you are descended from Pierre and Marie-Anne Chamberland ?
In any event, I thought I would touch base with you. Finding relatives is always exciting.
Below, I’ve included the line that I follow.
    Regards,
    Janet Adey

  10. Tom Douglas dit :

I have written a Canadian best-seller (« Canadian Spies ») that includes the wartime experiences of Lucien Dumais and Raymond LaBrosse – who set up an escape network for downed Allied air crew in Nazi-Occupied France. After D-Day, they fought with the French Resistance. This week, I received an email from, Robert Hamsely of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, a former Captain with the US 15th Cavalary who fought alongside Lucien and Raymond. They rescued the people of a small village in Brittany who were about to be executed by the Nazis for harbouring members of the Resistance. Captain Hamsley and his five tanks were able to help Lucien, Raymond and their colleagues defeat the Germans without a loss of life to the townspeople. When Captain Hamsely read about my book on-line, he wrote me to see if I could put him in touch with any of Lucien’s or Raymond’s surviving relatives. Can anybody help me with this? If so, please contact me at tmdouglas@cogeco.ca.

  16. Dawn Dumais dit :

Hi, I was married to Paul Dumais, brother to Nicole, Rene, and Guy, Son to Leo Dumais, from Timmons Ontario. I know the family came from Quebec and have found some information about the family tree. I am trying to find out the history for my daughter. I think the family can be traced back to the Dumais family from Normandy around 1648, but I cannot be sure. Is there anyone who can help me put the pieces together?

  17. Kimberly dit :

Hi I’m Kimberly A. Cosh, my father was Reginald Dumais, son of Leopaul Dumais, grandson of David Dumais and Emma Fleury. I have traced my family to Jean Dumay and Margaret Richard (of Normandy, France 1648). They had two sons Pierre and Jean-Baptiste, I have no info on Jean-Baptiste and I’m trying to fill in the gaps of each child and grandchild for Pierre Dumais. If there’s anyone who might be able to shed some light on this line please let me know, thank you, Kim.

  18. Carol Dumais dit :

I am trying to fine information on my ancestors. My father’s name was Clement Dumais (9/4/10 to 12/31/95) his father was Edmund Dumais and Edmund’s father was Joseph who I believe lived from 4/22/1885 to 4/10/1985.

  19. jocelyn dit :

What was their wife ‘s name ?

  20. Cassie Mannes dit :

This is a long shot. My name is Cassandra Mannes and as I research my family, I find that my great grandmother was named Philomene Dumas. She was the daughter of a Joseph Dumas who was married to a Louise Blaire (Blau, possibly). This part of my family is from Canada and I was wondering if they possibly fit into this family timeline. I don’t see Louise’s name, but the other names fit.

  21. Carol Dumais dit :

I did a lot of research last evening and found that Edmond (not Edmund) was married twice. First to Mary Cossette who was my grandmother but I can’t find who he was marred to after she died. My great grandfather Joseph was married to Marie Malvina Marcelle. They had 11 children – 7 who survived: Louis, Edmond, Georgiana (wahowiak), Amanda (Laplante), Ana or Anna (Trottier), Arthur, Mary and Rosanna (Snyder).
